    This Job: Portfolio Underwriter


    You'll Report To: Underwriting Lead


    What You'll Do: Support the underwriting function by participating in activities that aim to evalute the degree of risk involved and determine appropriate course(s) of action.

    What You'll Be Responsible For:


    • Identify profitable new business opportunities. 
    • Participates in the renewal and new business activities that support underwriting decisions which are consistent with growth, retention and expense management goals.
    • Maintain loss ration within an acceptable range. 
    • Reviews and critiques new and renewal business accounts including inspections, endorsements and cancellations
    • Meets with appropriate internal/external contacts to establish support needs for new and renewal policies, inspections and reports.
    • Responds to inquiries and questions from agents, vendors, customers and internal departments.
    • Researches problems and assists with solutions
    • Provides administrative services as required to support the renewal and new business activities
    • Maintains superior level of customer service.

    What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

    What You'll Need to Be a Top Candidate:


    Education: Associate’s Degree required, Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
    Experience: Two (2) years of residential property insurance experience, or combination of education and experience.
    Licensure: Florida 2-20 license preferred.

    • Demonstrated skills in the use of computer software applications.
    • Specific knowledge in a particular line of business and / or additional education may be required by the hiring business unit.
    • Familiarity with various types of insurance policies preferred.


    • Proven ability in customer service required. Strong decision-making skills.
    • Ability to communicate interpersonally with individuals and groups via telephone and in writing.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of technical / professional / consumer clients.
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.
    • Ability to balance timeliness and accuracy.
    • Aptitude to provide prompt, correct responses and documentation when requested.
    • Ability to share information while determining and maintaining appropriate confidentiality. Innovative in developing new methods or approaches to tasks and / or processes.
    • Resourceful in seeking information and gaining input to solve problems.

    Working Conditions: Normal business office environment. Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.

    Travel: Minimum, as required.
