    Title: Staff Accountant


    You'll Report to: General Accounting Operations Manager


    The Staff Accountant will have the responsibility of processing accounts payable transactions to ensure that the company's commitments to vendor partners, claimants, and policyholders are met in a timely and accurate manner. The Staff Accountant will also assist the accounting team on Month End closing responsibilities, up to and including:  journal entries, account analysis, reconciling accounts and reporting needs.  The Staff Accountant will gain knowledge on regulatory reporting needs, and support the team as needed in meeting agency deadlines.

    What You’ll Do

    • Receives and verifies invoices, and ensuring that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures, in addition to having required approval.
    • Prepares payments and batches of invoices, and manages related check run. Prepares manual checks, as needed and prepares vendor checks for mailing.
    • Organizes and maintains approved A/P vendors, both in General Ledger and physical files, including W-9's.
    • Exports a variety of claim data files and using assigned quality procedures to ensure accuracy. Submits registers to appropriate parties and print out checks.
    • Research check inquiries, and on occasion, places stop payments with the banking institution.
    • Maintain the Escheat/Stale dated checks records process               
    • Monthly balancing and reconciliation of general ledger accounts assigned.
    • Reconcile credit card statements with credit card receipts, book expense.
    • Assist Accounting staff with the regulatory filings.
    • Prepared assigned audit work papers and assist with audit requests.
    • May complete a variety of additional projects or tasks as assigned by the CFO/Controller or Accounting Manager as needed.

    What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

    Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business, or other related field from a four-year institution.  The bachelor's   degree is a minimum educational requirement for this position, and cannot be waived.


    Experience: 1-2 years in a staff accounting role preferred.


    Skills & Knowledge:         

    • Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Outlook, Word (required)
    • General Ledger or Accounts Payable systems (required)
    • Experience with actual business functions of a company (preferred)
    • Proper oral communication; speaks clearly, listens respectfully (required)
    • Good written communication; reviews work for spelling and grammar (required)
    • Exceptional organization skills. Completes all administrative tasks in assigned times (required)
    • Team Player (required)

    Your Environment

    Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.


    Travel: None required.
