    Title: Managing Attorney


    You'll Report to: VP of Litigation


    The Managing Attorney works in with the Vice President of Litigation and the SVP of Claims Services to manage the litigation department of the organization, working to create positive outcomes.  He/she will oversee a team of litigation support staff including attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants, helping the Vice President to divide caseload, manage deadlines, and coach and develop team members.  The Managing Attorney will work in conjunction with the VP and SVP on setting litigation strategy and provide legal input on claim strategy.

    What You’ll Do

    • Actively manage a team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants, focusing on coaching and developing team members into a world-class litigation support team.
    • Be responsible for assessing work quality, timeliness, and technical acumen of team members and providing constructive feedback when necessary.
    • Review, evaluate and make recommendations on behalf of the company on claims and lawsuits filed against the company.
    • Handle complex legal case management.
    • Directly manage claim lawsuits to achieve appropriate outcomes in defense of the company, in addition to other responsibilities. The Managing Attorney's caseload will be reduced as compared to other attorneys on the team to account for their managerial responsibilities, but they will act as a player/coach.
    • Assist in the selection, review and management of outside defense counsel utilized by the company in the defense of assigned lawsuits and extra-contractual claims to ensure highest standards for work product and cost-effectiveness are maintained.
    • Review, analyze and advise on claims initiatives and written materials to ensure consistency with best practices for avoidance of litigation and extra-contractual matters.
    • Create and solicit feedback on the company’s Litigation Management strategy.
    • Prepare status and other reports to senior management as needed in connection with assigned litigation inventory.

    What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

    Education: Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school required.  Must be a licensed member in good standing of the Florida bar.


    ExperienceMinimum of seven years’ experience working as a claims attorney, either in a firm setting or corporate counsel, defending personal lines property first party claims on behalf of an insurer.  In addition, the preferred candidate will have experience managing attorneys and support staff.


    Skills & Knowledge:

    • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Experience with CaseGlide case management system preferred.

    Your Environment

    Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers. 


    Travel: Frequent travel throughout the state as required.  Must have valid driver’s license.
