Your Title: Manager, Decision Support


Who You'll Report To: Director, System Implementation and Support


The Manager, Decision Support will lead a team of business analysts to drive the integration of business objectives with technology. 


The Manager is responsible for the management and execution of technology projects, working throughout the organization and across all departments.  He/she will lead a team to develop the scope of the work documents and project plans, and effectively manage project roles, resource requirements and deliverables, focusing on providing world-class solutions and customer service to department leaders within the organization.  The Manager will have ultimate responsibility for the quality of project deliverables and ensure that training needs are met.  He/she will ensure effective communication and relationships with all partners throughout the business.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform project planning and resource allocation to meet project milestones. Resources include internal staff and external consultants.
  • Oversee selection of managed services provider, including negotiating contract terms and service level agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure proper specification, installation, administration and maintenance of computing infrastructure to support internal business activities.
  • In conjunction with the VP of IT, lead the strategic development and implementation of all Decision Support projects.
  • Serve as the main contact for the current BPO; manage the vendor relationship in regards to system functionality and data.
  • Lead a team in developing and modifying existing processes and procedures in support of all department functions.
  • Generate creative solutions and reports to help analyze the business at all levels of the organization.
  • Lead a team in implementing system enhancements and changes for all departments
  • Oversee key projects and maintain/create project plans.
  • Coaching, mentoring and leadership of team members through establishing performance goals and reviews.
  • Coordinate and review all AD Hoc Analysis and reporting requests.
  • Partner with all departments to understand and interpret their reporting and analytical needs and translate those needs into analytical tools and reports.
  • Advise the business on any system issues.
  • Work to identify future business needs of the company and work with team to map out requirements and implement change.
  • Review scope/requirement documents for system changes/issues/enhancements and provide guidance to team when needed.
  • Guide and mentor the team/business in data understanding and reporting.
  • Guide the team in system testing of all enhancements/changes/production issues.
  • Understand the concept of a data warehouse and how to utilize the data warehouse for reporting

What You’ll Need to be a Top Candidate

Education: Bachelors Degree Required.


Experience: At least 5-7 Years of technology and/or BA experience, preferably with a P&C insurance carrier.  Management experience required.


Skills & Knowledge:         

  • Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in policy administration system replacement and implementation.
  • COGNOS or business intelligence tools experience
  • SQL knowledge
  • At least 7 years of experience in ITS related management positions, with a demonstrated record of career advancement as indicated by increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Experience using technology to help operating areas in an insurance company create profit; a strong systems analyst background.
  • Experience in hosting services and servers; local and wide-area networks, and Web-based computing platforms.
  • Experience with Network documentation and monitoring tools.
  • Experience with Data Warehousing and Business Intelligence tools and applications.
  • Demonstrated experience motivating and leading staff towards accomplished goals and metrics, i.e. trouble ticket resolution.
  • Experience completing projects successfully and on time.
  • Strong problem solving and attention to detail.
  • Superior communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and Access.

Your Environment

Working Conditions: Normal business office environment.  Must be able to remain in a stationary position for periods of time while constantly operating a computer and or other office productivity machinery such as a calculator or telephone.  The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery or communicate with coworkers.


Travel: Minimum, as required.
